Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved the payment of a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for staff of the FCT Administration, alongside three months arrears set to commence in November 2024.

This announcement was made by the Acting Head of the FCT Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, in a statement released by her Press Secretary, Ewhenji Anthony Odey, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mrs. Adayilo explained that the approval underscores the Minister’s dedication to improving the welfare of FCT Administration staff. She added that the payment of arrears demonstrates the administration’s commitment to the workforce’s well-being and productivity.

“This gesture will further spur the entire staff of the Administration to support the Minister in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she noted.

The Head of Service also expressed gratitude to the Minister for his prompt approval of staff allowances and claims, describing his efforts as pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of the administration.

The decision has been welcomed by workers and labour groups, who view the wage adjustment and arrears payment as a significant step toward addressing economic challenges and enhancing morale within the workforce.

As the payments roll out, this policy positions the FCT Administration as a leader in addressing worker welfare in line with national priorities.
