The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made multiple interceptions across Nigeria, uncovering a wide range of narcotics and counterfeit materials in operations spanning Lagos, Abuja, and several other states.
On Thursday, NDLEA operatives at a Lagos logistics firm seized 420 grams of cocaine hidden in 84 lipstick tubes bound for the UK, and 280 grams concealed in a Certificate of Occupancy destined for Saudi Arabia.
In a separate operation, a suspected drug trafficker, Ajetsibo Emami (alias ‘Warri Kinsman’), was arrested in Ikeja on June 28, alongside three accomplices. Officers recovered 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, weighing 414.2kg.
Another bust led to the arrest of a family running an alleged drug network in Lagos. Businessman Ajah Johnson, his wife Rosemary, their daughters, and a family friend were taken into custody after officials recovered a total of 508.5kg of skunk from two locations
At Murtala Muhammed International Airport, officials intercepted Aburemi Hysent with 7,660 tramadol pills hidden in food items bound for Italy. He confessed to being promised €800 for the delivery.
On July 4, NDLEA agents at the same airport discovered 52 counterfeit traveller’s cheques worth AU$17.7 million concealed in children’s books. Freight agent Bolarinwa Saheed was arrested and handed over to the EFCC.
Additional operations saw seizures of 359kg of skunk at the Seme border, 10,000 tramadol pills along Okene-Lokoja Highway, and over 62,000 opioid pills in Osun State. A cannabis farm spanning 9.67 hectares was destroyed in Oke-Ila, and 167kg of skunk was recovered in Borno.
In Kaduna, Zaria-Kano Road, and Sokoto, several suspects were arrested with large quantities of tramadol and other drugs, as NDLEA intensifies efforts to curb drug trafficking nationwide.
