Alaafin of Oyo Mourns Late Olubadan, Hails His Visionary Reign

Date:

Olubadan

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died in the early hours of Monday, barely a year after his ascension to the throne.

In a condolence statement issued through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, in Ibadan, the Alaafin described the late Olubadan as a visionary monarch whose impact, though within a brief reign, would remain deeply etched in the history of Ibadanland.

“A good heart has stopped beating, and a good soul has ascended to heaven,” Oba Owoade said. “Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed royal father.”

He acknowledged the inevitability of death and urged reflection on the transient nature of life. “Every creature is bound to die, and whatever has a beginning must have an end. Every soul shall taste death — this is the law that governs life.”

Referencing religious teachings, the Alaafin reminded the public that even God’s messengers were not exempt from death, and thus, all human beings should live with the awareness of mortality and strive to live meaningful lives.

He noted that despite Oba Olakulehin’s dedication and strength of character, he, like all mortals, could not escape the call of death when it came at age 90. “He was powerless before death, as no one can stop it,” he said.

On behalf of himself and the people of Oyo town, Oba Owoade extended heartfelt sympathies to the royal family and the people of Ibadanland. He prayed for peace and strength for the bereaved, stating, “A good ruler has gone to heaven. May the soul of the departed royal father rest in peace. May God’s love comfort his family through the days ahead.”
