Borno PDP Deputy Guber Candidate Dumps Party, Joins ADC: 2027 Realignment

Date:

Hon. Saleh Ahmed Kida, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State, has officially resigned from the party and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Kida announced his resignation in a letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Kokani, Kida Ward, Hawul Local Government Area.

“I humbly submit my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect. I thank you for the privilege and opportunity granted to me during my time in the party,” the letter read.

Copies of the resignation notice were also forwarded to the PDP State Chairman, the Deputy Chairman (Southern Borno), and the PDP Chairman in Hawul LGA.

Although Kida did not publicly state his reasons for leaving the PDP, political insiders say the move is likely tied to a growing opposition realignment strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections. The ADC, which has recently attracted prominent political figures, is positioning itself as a credible alternative to both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in the North-East and beyond.

Kida’s defection marks a significant shift in Borno’s opposition dynamics, with the ADC gaining traction as a magnet for aggrieved stakeholders seeking a new political direction.
