Tinubu to Falcons: Bring the trophy home

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, for their commanding victory over South Africa in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-final, praising the team for showcasing strength, determination, and national pride.

The Super Falcons secured a spot in the final after an intense match on Tuesday, defeating a resilient South African side in what many described as one of the standout performances of the tournament. The win keeps alive Nigeria’s pursuit of a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

In a post on his official X account (formerly Twitter), President Tinubu applauded the players for their courage and commitment, calling the win a “magnificent display of grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit.”

He said, “Well deserved! Congratulations to our Super Falcons!

“Your incredible #WAFCON2025 semi-finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative.

“It was a magnificent display of grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. You have made the nation proud.

“Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title.

“Nigerians worldwide are rooting for you. We are waiting to receive the cup,” Tinubu posted on Tuesday.

The Super Falcons’ impressive run has sparked widespread celebration across Nigeria, with millions eagerly anticipating the final showdown. Their current campaign could culminate in a historic 10th title, further cementing their status as the most successful team in the history of African women’s football.
