Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed former Big Brother Naija housemate and media entrepreneur Munirat Anto Lecky as the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Creative Economy.
The appointment took effect on June 23, 2025, and was confirmed in an official letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
Lecky’s new role involves promoting Edo State’s tourism sector and creative economy, with a focus on cultural heritage initiatives such as the return of the looted Benin Bronzes and the development of museums and cultural institutions.
The appointment letter stated: “The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved your appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Creative Economy with effect from June 23, 2025. The remuneration attached to the appointment is in line with the prevailing regulations governing the Edo State Public Service.”
In a statement shared on Instagram, Lecky expressed gratitude for the appointment, saying she was “honoured to serve” her home state and contribute to Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors.
“With the return of our priceless Benin Bronzes, upcoming museum projects, and a growing creative sector, Edo is poised to become a leader in Nigeria’s tourism and cultural economy,” she wrote.
Lecky currently serves as Special Assistant on Digital and New Media to Nigeria’s Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu.
She brings significant experience in creative leadership, having served as Head of Operations for Nigeria’s first private basketball league and Programme Manager at Kunle Afolayan Production’s Film and Television Academy.
She has also held roles as Arts and Special Projects Lead at ElectHER, a non-profit focused on women’s political inclusion.
Her appointment is part of ongoing efforts by the Edo State government to enhance cultural promotion and economic development through creative industries.
