ADC Disowns ‘Illegal’ Katsina Congress, Warns Members Against Participation

Date:

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Congress Committee in Katsina State has rejected a purported state congress held by some party members, describing the exercise as illegal and unconstitutional.

Chairman of the committee, Atiku Abubakar-Saleh, said the committee was duly constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to conduct credible congresses across the state and remained the only body authorised to oversee the process.

Speaking with journalists in Katsina, Abubakar-Saleh explained that the committee had already fixed Wednesday for ward and local government congresses, while the state congress is scheduled for Thursday, following a recent court judgment that cleared the party to proceed with the exercise.

He noted that the NWC also approved the composition of key committees, including a screening committee chaired by Dr Sulaiman Maiyawo, to ensure compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The committee chairman warned that any gathering or congress conducted outside the authority of the recognised committees was “null, void and of no consequence,” describing such actions as attempts to undermine party unity and democratic processes.

He urged party members and stakeholders to avoid participating in unauthorised activities and appealed to security agencies to remain vigilant against any attempts to disrupt public order under the guise of party congresses, while reaffirming the committee’s commitment to a transparent and peaceful exercise.
