Wike Never Sought VP Slot, Says Tambuwal

Date:

Sokoto South Senator and former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has denied claims that he had an agreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to serve as his running mate during the 2019 presidential election.

Tambuwal said no such arrangement existed when he contested the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries in 2019, dismissing reports suggesting there was a vice-presidential deal between both men.

Speaking on ARISE Television’s Prime Time on Monday, the senator also refuted assertions that Wike requested to be his vice-presidential candidate at the time.

According to Tambuwal, although Wike was a key ally and supporter of his presidential ambition, there was no pact or condition attached to that support, stressing that Wike never demanded any political position in return.

He added that Wike backed his candidacy based on his belief in his capacity and suitability for leadership, not out of political opportunism or negotiations over office.
