Army Vows To Intensify Offensive Against Insurgents In North-East

Date:

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its determination to intensify military operations to decisively end insurgency in the North-East.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, gave the assurance on Saturday during the 2025 West African Social Activity (WASA) jointly hosted by the Theatre Command and Headquarters 7 Division at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Abubakar described WASA as a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army that promotes its values, customs and esprit de corps, while also marking the end of activities for the year. He said the event provided an opportunity to reflect on operational engagements over the past year.

According to him, significant progress has been recorded in restoring law and order across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, noting that the relative peace being enjoyed is a result of the commitment, resilience and sacrifices of troops operating under the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.

The theatre commander expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the service chiefs for their strategic guidance, improved logistics and enhanced welfare for personnel.

He assured that Operation HADIN KAI would further intensify efforts to neutralise remaining terrorist elements in Borno and other parts of the region.

In his remarks, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained role in maintaining peace and security, pledging continued support and collaboration by the state government.

The governor also paid tribute to fallen soldiers, sympathised with their families and prayed for the recovery of wounded personnel, describing them as patriots who made sacrifices for the nation’s sovereignty.

The event featured cultural displays from across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, inter-agency competitions, award presentations, and traditional ceremonies that culminated in the symbolic lighting of a bonfire.
