The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied claims that it made provisions for the purchase of houses for its members in Abuja, describing the reports as false and misleading.
The lawmakers were reacting to rumours suggesting that funds had been allocated for the purchase of residential properties in the Federal Capital Territory for members of the Assembly.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, dismissed the allegations.
They clarified that the constitutional and operational jurisdiction of the Lagos State House of Assembly is limited to Lagos State and does not extend to Abuja.
According to them, there is no such expenditure captured in the state’s budget.
“There is no provision whatsoever in the 2026 Budget for the purchase of houses in Abuja or anywhere else for members of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” the statement said.
The lawmakers urged the public to disregard the report, stressing that the Assembly remains committed to transparency and responsible budgeting.
