The Kano State Government, through the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KNCDC), has launched a public health awareness campaign and distributed free medication to residents of Durmawa in Bebeji Local Government Area. The initiative follows reports of suspected cases of whooping cough in the community.
The outreach, which took place in Durmawa, Tiga, was confirmed in a statement by KNCDC Director-General, Prof. Muhammad Abbas. He said the team visited the community in response to alerts about an infectious disease believed to be whooping cough.
Abbas urged residents to promptly seek medical attention whenever symptoms of illness are observed in their children to ensure early diagnosis and treatment. He emphasised the importance of visiting health facilities for timely care.
The DG also encouraged proper use of the free medication distributed during the exercise to achieve the intended health benefits. Residents were reminded that the medicines are part of a proactive effort to control the spread of the disease.
Prof. Abbas assured the public that KNCDC remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to any suspected disease outbreak across the state. He reiterated the agency’s readiness to tackle health emergencies wherever they may occur in Kano.
