Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has withdrawn from the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The judge cited his impending leave as the reason for stepping down from presiding over the matter. The case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.
El-Rufai filed the suit at the FCT High Court, alleging violations of his fundamental rights. He challenged actions reportedly taken by agencies including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The former governor specifically raised concerns over the alleged invasion of his Abuja residence and the involvement of the agencies in ongoing legal matters against him.
Following Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the case have been put on hold pending reassignment by the FCT Chief Judge.
