Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has defended its clinical staff following the interim suspension of its Medical Director, Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, and two other doctors over the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi Esege, son of renowned author Chimamanda Adichie and her husband, Ivara Esege.

In a statement, the hospital said it remains committed to cooperating with regulatory authorities while expressing confidence in the professionalism and integrity of its medical team. It described the suspended doctors, Dr. Majekodunmi and Dr. Titus Ogundare, as experienced professionals with years of service delivering quality healthcare.

The suspensions were ordered after the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel, under the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, reviewed complaints surrounding the toddler’s treatment and found prima facie evidence of professional misconduct in some cases. The panel suspended three doctors and identified potential misconduct involving ten others while clearing eight.

Euracare said it had conducted an internal review in line with clinical governance standards but raised concerns that established procedures were not properly followed during the investigation. It also alleged breaches of confidentiality, describing the disclosure of sensitive information outside appropriate channels as a serious concern.

The hospital expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and reiterated its commitment to fairness and due process, stating that it would pursue its concerns through appropriate legal and regulatory channels.
