Obi Visits Kwankwaso in Kano, Sparks Talk of Political Realignment Ahead of 2027

Date:

Peter Obi visited Kano on Sunday, meeting with former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in a move that has fueled speculation about potential political alliances ahead of future elections. The meeting, held at Kwankwaso’s residence, drew several prominent political figures.

Among those present were Seyi Makinde, Seriake Dickson, and activist Naajatu Mohammed, highlighting the significance of the gathering. Observers say the meeting could signal ongoing discussions around a broader coalition, especially amid reports that Kwankwaso may consider shifting from the NNPP to the ADC.

Speaking during the Kwankwassiya Sallah celebration, Obi downplayed political motives behind the visit, stating that his primary purpose was to celebrate the festive period and pay respect to Kwankwaso. However, he emphasized a broader vision of reviving Kano’s economic strength, particularly by restoring its once-thriving industrial base.

Obi outlined plans to rejuvenate key industrial hubs such as Bompai and Sharada, as well as revive legacy institutions like the Bank of the North, noting that rebuilding Kano’s economic power remains a priority. He maintained that the visit was not about politics but about unity and development.

Kwankwaso, who hosted the event, welcomed the dignitaries and expressed satisfaction at the show of unity during the celebration. Despite the festive tone, the high-profile meeting has intensified discussions about possible political realignments and strategic alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
