Police Rescue Abducted Newborn, Arrest Two Suspects in Nasarawa

Date:

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby allegedly abducted in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, and arrested two suspects linked to the crime.

The command’s spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in a statement that the baby’s mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, reported the incident to police after unknown persons abducted her newborn son.

According to the statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of March 29, 2026, in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area. The victim said two unidentified men broke into her uncompleted residence on the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa while she was asleep and took the baby after threatening her.

She explained that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had travelled to Lagos about five months earlier for business.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed detectives from Mararaba ‘A’ Division to launch an immediate investigation and track down the suspects.

Police said operatives later arrested two suspects—Furera Abdulrahman, 35, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market—during an intelligence-led operation on April 3, 2026.

The abducted baby was recovered from the suspects’ custody. Police added that the suspects confessed during interrogation and identified another accomplice who is currently at large.

The child was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba for examination, confirmed to be in good health, and subsequently reunited with his parents.

The command said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation, while efforts continue to arrest the fleeing suspect. It also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
