Lagos Taskforce Arrests Three ‘Omotaku’ Suspects Preying on Motorists

Date:

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested three suspected hoodlums involved in attacks on owners of broken-down vehicles, a crime locally referred to as “omotaku.”

State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the arrests were made on Thursday at two separate locations: Palmgrove bus stop along Ikorodu Road and the Oniru area on Lagos Island.

“Operatives continued with the arrest of hoodlums attacking unsuspecting drivers with broken-down vehicles. Suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” Wahab said in a post on his official X account on Friday.

The arrests follow similar interventions earlier in the week, including operations at Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki and Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, where individuals reportedly confronted drivers, demanding money and mobile phones.

Wahab reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting motorists and eliminating harassment on Lagos roads, emphasizing that enforcement operations would continue across identified hotspots.

“We remain committed to keeping our roads safe and maintaining order and security for road users,” he added.
