Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers in Kwara Crackdown

Date:

The Kwara State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping, with five suspected abductors arrested during a coordinated security operation in the state.

In a statement issued on April 28, 2026, the Command said operatives of its anti-kidnapping unit carried out the operation on April 23 at Oke-Iya community, acting on intelligence and in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards.

According to the police, three suspects—Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar—were initially apprehended in connection with a recent attack in Idiya community, where five persons were reportedly kidnapped. Two of the victims had earlier escaped from captivity before the arrests.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, who are believed to be linked to the same kidnapping operation.

Items recovered during the raid include a locally fabricated rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live ammunition.

Police authorities confirmed that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, adding that they will be charged to court upon completion of the process.

The development underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and improve safety across communities in Kwara State.
