Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a herder accused of destroying farmlands in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X, where he noted that the troops were stationed at Anule when they responded to a distress report at about 12:00 p.m. on May 3.
According to the report, the soldiers arrived at the scene and found a herder grazing cattle on cultivated farmland, causing extensive damage to crops.
The suspect was immediately arrested and later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
Authorities also stated that efforts are ongoing to prevent a repeat of such incidents and to promote peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities in the area.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions in parts of Benue State over farmland encroachment and grazing activities, which security agencies continue to address through patrols and community engagement.
