APPON demands inclusion, membership among nation's stakeholders, decision makers

Association of Procurement Practitioners Of Nigeria has demanded to be captured by the Federal Government as one of the Stakeholders and decision makers in the Country.

The National President of APPON, Emem James Kanico said this while in a courtesy visit with His group to the Senate committee Chairman on procurement and senator representing Taraba South, Sen. Bwacha Emmanuel on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking, Emem explained that their association is one processing the entire or 80 percent of Government expenditure, budget in Nigeria.

while explaining the role they play, Emem noted that for Government to achieve any goal, they must pass through procurement process because they are the Practitioners and implement ors of Acts.

“Government spend money on three things, work, Goods and Services. For you to spend money on these things to achieve government goal, you must go through procurement process and we are the Practitioners and the implement ors of the acts”. Emem noted.

He explained that the major challenge in Nigeria procurement department is quack, which means, so many people conducting procurement practice are not professionals.

He therefore, urged the Federal Government to enforce the secular that was issued in 2017 by the Secretary General of the Federation that prohibits non procurement officers handling procurement duties or issue another secular to strengthen the formal secular.

Senator Bwacha, while responding, congratulated the group and promised to partner with them to promote transparency and accountability in the procurement practice in Nigeria and to work on the Bill which they drafted for the Establishment of 2021 procurement Practitioners Council of Nigeria and also to see the light of the day.
