Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has facilitated a peace agreement between the Tiv and Fulani communities in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The agreement, signed during a meeting at the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, is part of ongoing efforts to foster peaceful coexistence and resolve longstanding communal disputes without violence.

Traditional leaders, community elders, and key stakeholders attended the meeting, which aimed to find a lasting solution to recurring tensions between the two ethnic groups.

General Uwa condemned the cycle of reprisal attacks and warned against taking the law into one’s hands, urging communities to rely on legal processes to seek justice.

Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, In a statement called on all parties to act as peace ambassadors and support unity, stressing that true security and development thrive only in a peaceful environment.

The Tiv and Fulani representatives pledged to maintain peace, avoid shielding criminal elements, and provide timely intelligence to security agencies to prevent further conflict.

Gassol Local Government Chairman, Abubakar Usman, praised the army’s role in restoring peace and commended the 6 Brigade’s continued efforts to stabilize the region.

The meeting however concluded with the formal signing of a peace pact, with all parties committing to implement the resolutions in collaboration with relevant authorities.
