The Kwara State Police Command has foiled an alleged cult assassination plot and arrested two suspected armed robbers in Ilorin, recovering eleven iPhones, weapons, and other stolen items.
According to a statement issued on August 11, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrests were made around 9:00 a.m. on August 10, after operatives received credible intelligence from community security sources about a robbery at Opeyewa Hostel, Eleko Area.
A swift joint operation by the police and local vigilantes led to the capture of two suspects:
-
Ishola Adeyemi (male) of Ibadan, Oyo State
-
Ismail Rafiu (male) of Ibadan, Oyo State
Items recovered from them include:
-
Eleven iPhones
-
₦30,500 in cash
-
One WiFi device
-
Two new long cutlasses
-
Two pairs of slippers
-
Other personal belongings
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed they were invited to Ilorin by one Qudus, also known as “Tiny,” identified as a member of the Eye Cult Fraternity. Their initial mission, police said, was to kill a rival cultist. When that plan failed, they allegedly turned to robbing student hostels.
The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Commending the rapid response, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo praised the cooperation between community vigilantes and law enforcement. He reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy on violent crime and urged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious activities.
