Benue: Herdsmen strike IDPs camp, as seven people confirmed dead

The attack by the armed Fulani  herdsmen on Abegene community housing Internally Displaced Persons camp, IDPs in Makurdi Local government Area of Benue State, has left seven people dead.

Report also confirmed many others injured fromp the strike.

ROYAL NEWS gathers that the angry youths, who were furious by the killings took the Makurdi-Lafia road to protest on Tuesday morning, blocking the roads with the dead bodies.

A statement from the State Governor, Samuel Ortom, described the assault on the IDPs camp as inhuman, barbaric, and unacceptable behavior.

However, the Governor called on the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, to live up to his responsibility of protecting the country.

He added by lamenting over some previous cases, as over seventy people had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone, while various communities across Benue were going through the same militia herdsmen.

Governor Ortom also called for emergency action against the bad behavior of militia across the country.

“Had it been Federal Government has taken the issue of militia herdsmen seriously, it wouldn’t have escalated to this level,” he said.
