Berom Youth Group Accuses MACBAN of Plot to Shield Plateau Attack Suspect

Date:

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has accused the Plateau State leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) of attempting to shield a suspect arrested in connection with the recent attack on Pwomol village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The group alleged that one of the suspected attackers, identified as Suleiman, was arrested by a local vigilante group after the April 5 invasion of the community and subsequently handed over to security personnel for interrogation. The attack reportedly left two people dead and properties destroyed.

In a statement issued on Thursday, BYM National President, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, alleged that the association had received intelligence suggesting that MACBAN was attempting to secure a medical report declaring the suspect mentally unstable in order to influence his release.

According to Mwantiri, the alleged plan involves presenting the medical report to the Operation Enduring Peace Special Task Force as grounds to pressure authorities to release the suspect or face possible legal action.

He described the move as an attempt to obstruct justice and shield a suspect allegedly linked to the attack on the Pwomol community.

“The association wishes to state clearly that any such attempt must be rejected outright,” he said, adding that anyone involved in producing or facilitating a questionable medical certificate should be investigated as accomplices.

Mwantiri also questioned claims that the suspect could be mentally unstable, arguing that he reportedly provided detailed information about the attack despite not residing in the affected community.

He warned that any interference with the investigation could undermine public confidence and deepen concerns about accountability in ongoing attacks affecting communities across Plateau State.

MACBAN had yet to respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
