Adamawa ADC Faction Suspends Atiku, Babachir Lawal Over Alleged Misconduct

Date:

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal over alleged misconduct and gross indiscipline.

The factional chairman in the state, Raji Zumo, disclosed the decision while addressing journalists in Yola, saying the action followed what he described as attempts by the affected leaders to interfere in party affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Zumo said the suspension also extends to members of the Sadiq Dasin-led executive council aligned with the faction, noting that those affected would face further disciplinary procedures.

According to him, the decision was taken to safeguard the party’s internal structure and prevent any individual or group from taking control of its operations.

“ADC is not a personal property, and we will not allow any individual or group, no matter how highly placed, to hijack the party or turn it into a personal estate,” he said.

He further alleged that the suspended leaders attempted to impose candidates on the party in preparation for the 2027 polls, warning that such actions had brought the party into disrepute.

The development comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the ADC across several states as rival factions continue to contest leadership positions and influence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
