Biola Adebayo Faces Backlash for Interviewing Convicted Actor Baba Ijesha

Date:

Nollywood actress and podcaster Biola Adebayo is facing intense criticism online after featuring convicted actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, on her show Talk To B. The interview has gone viral and sparked outrage, with many accusing Adebayo of giving a platform to a convicted child molester.

During the interview, Baba Ijesha described the sexual offence case that led to his conviction as a “setup” and suggested parts of it were linked to “movie preparation,” a claim widely condemned by Nigerians on social media.

He also revisited his past relationship with actress Iyabo Ojo, claiming she once entrusted him with the care of her children, Festus and Priscilla. Ojo has publicly disputed this, warning him against involving her children in his narrative and threatening legal action if he continues.

Social media reactions were overwhelmingly critical. On X, users condemned both Baba Ijesha and Adebayo. User #tolu_fakoya wrote: “There is nowhere in the world and no one in their right senses and mind should be granting a child rapist any interview. No one. Biola Adebayo is appalling.”

Other users called for accountability, with #Fortwin___ stating: “They need to rearrest Baba Ijesha then Biola Adebayo… People like this should not be given any platform at all.” Meanwhile, #TheChibuogwu added: “Biola Adebayo really messed up. Ruining her goodwill for some clicks and views?”

On Facebook, critics raised concerns about the ethics of giving convicted offenders a public stage. Marufah Muhammed said: “You came out from a correctional centre and instead of choosing silence and reflection, you chose the spotlight again. Interviews, explanations, narratives… Because we saw what we saw.”

The interview has reignited national debate over media responsibility, accountability, and the boundaries of giving a platform to convicted offenders.
