The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Senator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Edo State, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Delivering the lead judgment on Thursday, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, who led a five-member panel of the apex court, ruled that the appellants failed to provide sufficient and credible evidence to support their claims.
The court upheld the earlier verdict of the Court of Appeal delivered on May 29, which also affirmed the judgment of the election petitions tribunal that validated Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
With this ruling, all legal challenges to Okpebholo’s election have been conclusively settled in his favour.
