Court remands two men over attempted murder in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has , ordered the remand of two men, Clement Oluwasola, 21, and Afolayan Opeyemi ,23, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged attempted murder.

The prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court yesterday that the defendants committed the offence on February 26 at about 08:30 p.m at Adebayo Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Leramo alleged that they conspired among themselves and attempt to murder, one Aluko Alex.

The Inspector, according to the statement of the victim, said he was in his house, while some boys came into their compound, shouting and disturbing the peace of the neighbors, saying one of their co-tenant threatened to kill them.

He added that himself and the other tenants told them that they will talk to the man in question, adding that later they came back to fight him.

He pointed out that the two defendants, immediately carried a block and hit it on his head, and he was seriously beaten, saying they hit his head with axe and also stabbed his neck with broken bottle, while they also used a wood with nail to hit him, while he sustained injury in some parts of his body.

The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 516 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendants in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice. The case was adjourned till April 7, for mention.
