Customs generates N8.487bn revenue in Kaduna command

Date:

The Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, Kaduna Area Command, generated N8.487 billion between January and November.

This was said by the command’s Comptroller, Sanusi Abubakar, in an interview with journalists on Friday in Kaduna.

He said the figure was higher than the 8.1 billion naira generated by the command in the corresponding period of 2020.

He said most of the revenue came from factory excise duties and duties paid on products imported through the Kaduna inland dry port.

The comptroller said the command made many seizures during the period as it tightened the loop on smugglers through intensive patrols and intelligence gathering.

However, he said the command faced smuggling attacks on its staff during the period, adding that an officer narrowly escaped death in one of those attacks.

Abubakar said the command had adopted strategies to achieve more success in 2022 and warned smugglers to desist from their illegal activities or face the wrath of the law.

“Wherever they (smugglers) go, our eagle eyes are looking and we will track them to their hiding places; The Nigerian Customs Service aims to protect the Nigerian economy.

“Only unpatriotic people are smuggling, which is also a way to sabotage the Nigerian economy.

“It is only when we are patriots that most of the country’s problems can be addressed,” he said.

According to him, Nigerians should be more patriotic and cooperate with the government in its policies to advance the economy.
