CCII Warns Oyo Politicians Against Disrespecting Olubadan Stool

Date:

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has issued a stern warning to politicians in Oyo State over actions and statements perceived as disrespectful to the revered Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a statement released on Monday in Ibadan, the council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, condemned what he described as rising reckless utterances and conduct by some political actors, stressing that such behavior threatens the dignity of traditional institutions in Ibadanland.

Ajewole warned that the council would not tolerate any attempt to denigrate the Olubadan stool, describing it as sacred and central to the identity of the Ibadan people.

“The stool is sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with the highest respect at all times. Any attempt to denigrate the revered stool will be met with severe consequences,” the statement read.

He further emphasized that the Olubadan remains a unifying figure for all indigenes and residents, regardless of political affiliations, and cautioned politicians to conduct themselves with decorum and restraint.

“All politicians in Oyo are sons and daughters of the Olubadan. They must show absolute respect for the institution. Any attempt to insult the stool and later offer apologies will no longer be tolerated,” Ajewole added.

The council also stressed that the palace must never be used as a political tool, describing it as a symbol of unity and strength for the people.

Reaffirming its non-partisan stance, the CCII expressed concern over incidents where politicians resort to insults and curses against opponents, labeling such conduct as irresponsible and unacceptable.

Ajewole called on political actors to demonstrate maturity in their engagements, urging them to prioritize peace and unity over hostility.

The council reiterated its commitment to defending the sanctity of the Olubadan stool and urged all stakeholders to uphold respect for traditional institutions across the state.
