The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), handed over 6,488 kg of cannabis sativa with a street value of N519,040,000 and four suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), as directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Addressing the media as part of the interagency collaboration, Controller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Controller Kola Oladeji explained that the negative impact of these drugs calls for the need to work together for the reduction and the possible elimination of the presence of such substances in the communities.
According to Controller Kola Oladeji, “I am delighted to inform you that the handing over of 6,488 kg of Cannabis sativa worth a street value of Five Hundred and Nineteen Million, Forty Thousand Naira (N519,040,000) and four suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), as directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR dsm fnipr psc (+), underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating the supply chain of illicit drugs in our society.
“Trading and distribution of illicit drugs such as Cannabis sativa pose a grave danger to our communities. These substances do not only have detrimental effects on the individual’s health and well-being but also contribute to social problems such as crime and violence. The negative impact of these drugs calls for the need to work together for the reduction and the possible elimination of the presence of such substances in our communities.
“I want to caution the youths and traders who are involved in the distribution and sale of illicit drugs like Cannabis sativa. They are not only putting their lives at risk but also jeopardising the safety and security of our society as a whole. Therefore, we must all take a strong stand against the trade in illicit drugs and work towards creating a drug-free environment for ourselves and future generations.
“I am appealing to the public to join us in advocating against the trade in illicit drugs. We need to raise the bar concerning awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and also support the law enforcement agents who are combating drug trafficking. We can collectively make a significant impact in reducing the availability of illicit substances in our communities.
