Delta Police Arrest Kidnappers After ₦2m Ransom, Shooting Victim

Date:

The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers who allegedly collected a ₦2 million ransom from their victim but still shot him before abandoning him in a bush.

The suspects, identified as Chukwuebuka Nka, 25, Uche Okechukwu, and Somto Chukwuma, were tracked down following a distress call reporting the abduction of a young man from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku.

Police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said operatives traced the kidnappers to a bush in Ogwashi-Uku, where the victim was rescued with a gunshot wound to his leg. Investigations revealed that after collecting the ransom, the suspects shot the victim when they discovered his account balance could not provide more money.

Further intelligence led to the arrest of Nka and Okechukwu in neighbouring Anambra State, where officers also recovered the victim’s stolen white Toyota Venza. Based on their confession, police raided a hideout in Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku, leading to the arrest of the third suspect, Chukwuma.

Edafe disclosed that the suspects later guided police operatives to another hideout, where their operational vehicle and a network jammer circuit device, allegedly used to disrupt communication during the abduction, were recovered.

The victim is said to be receiving treatment for his injuries while the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. The police assured residents that efforts to curb kidnapping and violent crimes in the state would be sustained.
