E-X-P-O-S-E-D: How new Ajanasi-Agba of Ilorin emerged

Following the death of the former Ajanasi-agba of Ilorin,  late Alhaji Hassan Bature, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has announced the appoinment of a 34yr-old Sheikh Mujitaba Bature as his successor.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the holder of the titled is to serve as the Chief Translator of all the Tafsir (Islamic lectures) by the Chief Imam of Ilorin in the ancient palace of Ilorin during the month of ramadan as well as during other traditional functions.

However, it was a seven months thorough search for a well vast scholar who will among other qualities ensure peaceful co-existence among Islamic scholars in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond.

It was gathered that six contenders expressed interest to occupy the position but following due consultations and deliberations, Sheikh Yusuf Mujitaba Bature was finally approved and appointed by the His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari as the most suitable candidate for the position on Tuesday.

He was subjected to oral examination and screening of academic qualifications.

Mujitaba obtained a Masters Degree in Arabic from the University of Ilorin, a statement by the Secretary to the Ilorin Emirate Council,  Alhaji S.A. Lawal revealed.

“The new Ajanasi-agba is currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, University of Ilorin”, he said.
