EFCC to prosecute 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Nasarawa

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to prosecute 17 individuals arrested for alleged involvement in Internet fraud in the Mararaba area of Nasarawa State.

According to a statement published on the commission’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, the suspects were apprehended in an intelligence-driven operation. The EFCC said the arrests were made following credible information about the suspects’ involvement in cybercrime activities.

During the raid, operatives recovered several items believed to be proceeds of crime, including five cars, 20 mobile phones, and four laptop computers.

“The suspects were arrested in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in Internet-related offences,” the statement read.

The EFCC confirmed that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

In a related development, PUNCH Metro had earlier reported a similar operation on July 19, when the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the EFCC dismantled a cybercrime training centre in Umuahia, Abia State.

The centre, known as Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom, was reportedly located within the Doofco Palace building behind Government College, Umuahia.

The operation led to the arrest of 23 suspects, including eight individuals said to be undergoing cybercrime training. Among those arrested were Toona Henry, Tavershima Solomon, Chi Orseer James, Ubee Benjamin, Gabriel Ibe Ifeanyi, Tindue Godwin, Muhammed Terwase Michael, and Destiny Andrew.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
