Facebook Posts by Fulani Man Stir Plateau Tension

Date:

A series of provocative social media posts by a man identified as Musa Idris Ubandoma has stirred public outrage and calls for action from security agencies in Plateau State.

Ubandoma, believed to be of Fulani origin, has been sharing controversial statements on Facebook, including what some observers view as incitements to violence and sectarian division. His latest posts have alarmed many residents of the crisis-prone state, with critics accusing him of justifying recent attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani militias.

In one post, Ubandoma laid out what he described as “conditions for peace” in Plateau State, including the appointment of a Fulani Muslim as deputy governor, a Muslim Secretary to the State Government (SSG), allocation of land for the Ruga settlement initiative, and state support for Islamic pilgrimages.

He ended the post with: “We are one. We must live in peace, if not RIP.”

In another post that has circulated widely, he reportedly claimed: “Plateau belongs to the Fulani… We must become deputy, then governor… Implement Shari’a.”

He also posted statements demanding that Fulani cattle be allowed to graze freely across Nigeria, asserting their rights as citizens.

The inflammatory nature of the posts has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Plateau residents questioning why security and intelligence agencies have not taken action against the individual.

Human rights groups and civic organizations have called for a thorough investigation into Ubandoma’s posts, citing concerns that unchecked hate speech could inflame tensions in a region already struggling with ethno-religious conflict.

Authorities have yet to issue an official response regarding the posts or whether Ubandoma is under investigation.
