Family Seeks Justice in Delta State Killing, Calls on IGP to Intervene

Date:

The family of Kenneth Ojobo, who lived in Okirighwere community, has demanded a thorough investigation into his death, urging the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu to ensure justice is served.

In a statement on Friday, the family expressed concerns over alleged intimidation of potential witnesses and called for enhanced protection to encourage cooperation with investigators. They reported that some witnesses had relocated to Abuja due to safety fears.

“Witnesses are scared for their lives. They have been threatened and warned not to speak or return,” the family said, adding that those responsible for Ojobo’s death must be brought to justice.

Internal police records show that the Force had previously acted on a petition related to the incident. A memo dated November 17, 2025, from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police instructed the Force Intelligence Department to investigate an August 2025 incident in which violence in the community reportedly led to Ojobo’s death and injuries to others.

Legal representatives for the complainant emphasized the need for a comprehensive and transparent investigation, ensuring accountability for anyone found culpable. The petition urged the IGP to take direct interest to uphold due process and restore confidence in law enforcement.

“Therefore, it is our strong belief that only your office can address this issue. We implore you in the name of all that is good about the Nigerian Police Force to come and rescue our client and the people of Okirighwere community in Sapele, Delta State,” the petition stated.

The family and their representatives reiterated that swift and fair action is essential to protect residents and reinforce the rule of law in the community.
