Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in the 2027 general elections, despite recent efforts by opposition coalitions to unseat him.
Speaking on a Radio show in Akure on Sunday, Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu’s deep political acumen and resilience make him a formidable candidate. Even without full support from his party in 2023, he won,” Fayose said, citing challenges such as the naira redesign policy and lack of backing from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Fayose emphasized that his admiration for Tinubu is personal and not political, adding that he has no plans to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite his praise for the president, he reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP.
However, Fayose expressed concern over the PDP’s internal divisions, warning that the party may fail to rank among the top three in the next general election. He criticized PDP leaders for sidelining him and defended his past support for Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
On state politics, Fayose declared his backing for Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid, attributing his support to the governor’s infrastructure projects. He noted that former governors of the state have also united in support of Oyebanji.
Fayose concluded that opposing Oyebanji’s re-election amounts to opposing progress, urging residents of the state to support continuity in governance.
