FCT Igbo Community Urges Tinubu to Release Nnamdi Kanu

Date:

The Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, amid renewed public agitation for his freedom.

In a statement issued on Monday, the association’s President General, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, appealed to the President to address the issue through democratic means, warning that Kanu’s continued detention could become a major political distraction for the administration.

Ellis-Ezenekwe noted that Kanu has been in detention for more than four years without conviction, a situation many Nigerians consider unjust. He recalled that Kanu was “abducted from Kenya and returned to Nigeria by government agents,” adding that the case has lingered for too long.

“The people want Nnamdi Kanu to be freed. He deserves justice. It is not illegal for a people to agitate for their rights,” he said.

He described President Tinubu as a “clever and wise politician” and urged him to demonstrate the same wisdom in resolving the matter peacefully through executive action.

Ellis-Ezenekwe stressed that granting Kanu’s release would not only calm tensions but also demonstrate the administration’s commitment to justice, equity, and national reconciliation.
