Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in an early morning fire that swept through a residential building in Ibadan on Monday.
The incident reportedly occurred at Lane 2, Oluyole Estate, around 2 a.m., when the sitting room of a duplex residential building was engulfed in flames. Sources said the fire caused significant damage to items in the sitting room, though the rest of the property was largely saved.
The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen. He attributed the fire to an electrical surge from an unattended appliance.
According to Akinwande, “Immediately the address was taken, a crew of fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji promptly responded. The firemen swiftly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. No life was lost, and other properties worth millions of naira were saved.”
The fire service officials praised the prompt action of the fire personnel, which ensured that the fire’s impact was limited to the sitting room.
