Flutterwave Secures Banking Licence, to Hold Deposits Directly

Date:

Flutterwave Inc., a leading payments technology company, has obtained a banking licence that will allow it to hold funds and deposits directly, the firm announced.

Olugbenga Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, said the licence will enable the company to streamline operations and accelerate payment flows.

“By operating with direct infrastructure, we can simplify our processes and speed up transactions for everyone,” Agboola stated. “Businesses will soon be able to hold balances within Flutterwave, access enhanced treasury services, and benefit from data-driven lending.”

He added that the approval represents a key milestone in the company’s 10-year journey to build Africa’s financial infrastructure. “A decade ago, we began with a simple belief: better infrastructure changes everything. Payments failed too often, settlements were slow, and expanding meant rebuilding from scratch. Our focus has always been on connecting fragmented systems,” he said.

Agboola emphasized that the new licence will allow Flutterwave to make its infrastructure more efficient and deliver faster, more reliable financial services to its users.

This development positions Flutterwave to expand its offerings and strengthen its role in the continent’s digital finance ecosystem.
