2027 Elections: ADC Confirms May 12 Inauguration of Newly Elected Officials

Date:

The African Democratic Congress has fixed May 12, 2026, for the inauguration of its newly elected state executives, as the party’s faction led by former Senate President David Mark moves to consolidate control of its structures nationwide. The announcement signals a renewed push to stabilise and formalise leadership across state chapters despite ongoing internal disputes.

In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the state congresses were successfully conducted across the federation. It congratulated newly elected officials, describing the process as peaceful and consistent with legal and constitutional provisions guiding the party’s internal democracy.

The party further stated that the inauguration of the state executives will hold on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be announced by the National Working Committee. It urged the incoming leaders to remain committed to strengthening the party and building a credible political alternative for Nigerians.

However, the development comes amid lingering leadership disputes within the ADC, including allegations of parallel congresses, suspensions, and court cases in some states. These conflicts have raised questions about the uniformity and credibility of the congress process, despite the leadership’s insistence that all exercises conducted under its authority were valid.

Despite the tensions, the Mark-led faction maintains that the congresses reflect internal democracy and discipline within the party. It has called on members to close ranks and support efforts to reposition the ADC ahead of future political engagements nationwide.
