A socio-political group Progressive Change in Nigeria (APCN) has thrown its support for the candidacy of the former governor of Nasarawa State Dr Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, saying that he remains the best candidate to occupy the post of the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

The group said that as one of the founding fathers of APC, no other person deserves the merit of occupying the seat at their head office than Dr Al-Makura, who the group describes as a great mobilizer and a grassroots politician of repute.

In a statement sent to media houses in Abuja yesterday and signed by its national president Dr Jonathan Osu Agwu, the group, which as an affiliate of the ruling party, said that the antecedents of the former governor, as bridge-builder, especially from diverse ethnic nationalities will help in uniting All Progressive Congress, even as the party looks forward in winning the next general election in 2023.

“We are of the strong conviction that only Dr Umaru Tank Al-Makura can the potential and wherewithal to reposition our great party now and when our visionary leader President Mohammadu Buhari leaves office in 2023. Take a good look at his achievements during his tour of duty as governor of Nasarawa state, where he performed tremendously well in all facets of governance.

“Most important of his glorious achievements is what we regard as his unifying strength; where he showed that truly he will be best national chairman of our great party. He not only brought all the ethnic groups in that state to peaceful co-existence, but he also made them participate actively in the development of the state, by spreading appointments and other political positions to all the crannies of the state.”

The group noted that with the coming of Al-Makura as the national chairman of APC, the party will know long-lasting peace that will guarantee the progress of the country.

“For APC to grow truly, we must hand over the party to a visionary leader, who knows the onus of leadership and interconnectivity among all ethnic nationalities in the country. Umaru Al-Makura has all the qualities that stand him out among other contestants, a man to be trusted with such a sensitive position as National Chairman of our great party. He started the CNPP with President Buhari, and he has remained loyal to both the president and the party in general. Therefore, a man like should be counted to hold a sensitive position because he will never sell out like some people will do,” the party stated in the statement.
