The Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Razak Gidado, has reacted a recent media remarks made by Alhaji Ibrahim Iliyasu Moro, a former member of the Kwara State House of Assembly representing Oloru/Malete/Ipaye Constituency.
During a sposored political programme on radio, Alhaji Iliyasu made assertions regarding the Kwara State Government’s handling of security matters and making reference to a report which Alhaji Gidado described as misleading, unethical, and a breach of the oath of secrecy binding all members of a Censored Committee constituted by the State Government few years ago, of which Hon. Iliyasu was a member.
According to Gidado, “As the Chairman of that committee, I find it deeply shocking that a former public office holder would violate the confidentiality of a body tasked with such a sensitive mandate. His comments are not only unbecoming of a progressive peace-loving indigene of Kwara, but they also undermines the collective efforts being made to safeguard lives and property across the state.
“Hon. Iliyasu was neither the Chairman nor the Secretary of the committee, and as a matter of protocol, no individual member is authorized to speak unilaterally or misrepresent the committee’s work and recommendations to the public.”
He however emphasized that the committee operates under strict confidentiality and collective responsibility, and any deviation from this standard is both inappropriate and damaging to the integrity of the process.
He added that the committee’s mandate and the broader issue of security requires discreet, painstaking efforts, which the Kwara State Government has approached with seriousness and strategic intent.
Gidado therefore commended the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for taking bold and proactive steps to addressing insecurity.
He highlighted the establishment of a multi-stakeholder security advisory committee, provision of operational equipment to law enforcement agencies, support for community policing initiatives, and deployment of targeted military operations in high-risk areas as impressive decisions.
“If the government were indifferent and irresponsive, it would not have convened a committee of stakeholders to develop strategic interventions. The Governor’s commitment to peace and security is evident in both policy and action”, he added.
The NOC boss further called on all stakeholders especially those who have served in public office to engage responsibly and constructively in matters of public interest stressing that “The intentions behind Alhaji Iliyasu’s remarks remain known only to him.”
