Presiding Justice of the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal, Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh is dead.
The eminent jurist was said to have suddenly slumped at his residence after a phone conversation.
Ikyegh JCA (born March 17, 1958) hails from Konshisha LGA of Benue State.
He attended the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) and was called to the Nigerian bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1980.
He was appointed Judge of the High Court of Benue State on 27th March 1991, a position he held until his elevation to the Appeal Court on the 16th of July, 2010.
He was a member of the 2019 Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that dismissed the petition of Atiku Abubakar & the PDP, thereby re-affirming the election of ex-President, Muhammadu Buhari.
He also chaired the panel that granted the applications of the LP and PDP to inspect the BVAS machines and other electoral documents immediately after the 2023 General Election.
Less than 2 weeks ago, he read the majority judgement re-affirming Dapo Abiodun as Ogun State Governor.
He was initially amongst the 22-man list scheduled to be interviewed for promotion to the Apex Court.
He is ranked 10th in the Seniority list of the Appellate Court.
He left behind a rich legacy of legal jurisprudence and public service spanning over three decades. He is survived by a wife, children & grandchildren.
