Residents of Otte and Budo Egba in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State have expressed relief and gratitude following the commissioning of the rehabilitated Otte/Budo Egba Waterworks by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.
According to a statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola, the project is expected to provide clean and safe water to thousands of residents, significantly improving living conditions in the area.
Agboola said the rehabilitation included the installation of a 500,000-litre capacity storage tank as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen water infrastructure across the state.
Quoting the governor, Agboola noted: “This is not just about giving clean water to our people. The project brings comfort and renewed confidence in government. Access to clean water improves public health and supports education, as children no longer have to spend hours fetching water instead of being in school.”
Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, AbdulRazaq Jiddah, commended the contractors for their professionalism and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the project’s execution.
He also highlighted other ongoing water rehabilitation works in Omu-Aran, Oyun, and Sobi, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring every resident has access to clean water.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources, Yunus Oniboki; Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Lade; and Chairman of Asa Local Government, Shehu Amasa.
Oniboki described the project as a major step toward solving water scarcity in the area, while Lade urged residents to protect the facility from vandalism.
Amasa hailed the waterworks as a “gigantic and beneficial project,” saying it would reduce the hardship residents face, particularly during the dry season.
Other attendees, including community leaders Shehu Adaramaja and Abdullateef Alakawa, commended the governor’s initiative, describing it as a lasting investment in the welfare of local communities.
