KWARA GOVT REITERATES SUPPORT FOR P-WASH PROGRAMME

The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its commitment to give adequate resources and make necessary policies that will enable the Partnership for Expanded Water, Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (P-WASH) programme to succeed across the state.
Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare reiterated the commitment at Etsu Patigi’s Palace, during the ongoing state-wide sensitization campaign to end open defecation, organised by the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).
The Commissioner stated that the negative effect of open defecation is not only to the environment but also constitute health hazards to the people as rainfall washes most of it to the streams and rivers.
Hon. Lade appealed to Traditional Rulers, Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairmen, National Union of Road Transport Workers, District Heads, Association of Market Women, and youth leaders to join hands with the state government to ensure the success of the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, the General Manager of RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Adewumi disclosed that Patigi Local Government is one of the luckiest choices for the programme, among others in the state.
He explained that the state government has already set aside millions of naira for the construction of toiletries as a measure to curb open defecation in the communities.
Mr. Adewumi advised the opinion leaders in every community to give maximum support to the officers that will construct the facilities when it finally commences.
In his welcome address, the TIC Chairman of Patigi Local Government, Alh. Liman Ibrahim Mohammed, who was also represented by the Supervisor for Agriculture, Mr. Saba Zhiri thanked the state government for the opportunity given to Patigi local government for the project.
The Chairman promised to complement the state government efforts by intensifying campaigns against open defecation.
Giving his Royal blessings, the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, appreciated the state government for bringing the P-WASH programme to his domain.
The Monarch pledged to use his good office to continue to educate and enlighten his subjects on the importance of ending open defecation in the area.
He appealed to both the Federal and State Governments to assist the community in improving its epileptic power supply, the terrible condition of the road, and the dearth of functional healthcare facilities in the area.
