The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, has commenced the accreditation process for the medical training programme of the College of Health Sciences, Kwara State University. A team from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) is currently on an official visit to the facility.
Welcoming the team to the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Bola Ahmed AbdulKadir, expressed delight over the visit and reaffirmed the hospital’s preparedness for the accreditation exercise.
He noted that KWASUTH has put in place the necessary infrastructure, personnel, and systems required to meet the standards for training medical students, adding that the institution remains committed to excellence in healthcare delivery and medical education.
Also speaking was the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Kwara State University, Prof. Moyosore Ajao, who highlighted the university’s achievements in advancing medical education.
He commended the Chief Medical Director for his significant contributions to the success of the accreditation process, noting that the collaboration between the university and the teaching hospital has significantly strengthened the foundation for quality medical training.
In his response, the Team Lead from the MDCN and Deputy Registrar, Dr Nnaemeka Nwakanma, stated that the purpose of the visit was to assess the hospital for accreditation as a training centre for medical students of the College of Health Sciences, Kwara State University, Ilorin.
He appreciated the Kwara State Government’s efforts to reposition the healthcare sector for improved service delivery.
Dr Nwakanma assured the management of KWASUTH and the university of the Council’s readiness to partner with the state to deliver high-quality healthcare and sustain high standards in medical training.
The accreditation exercise is expected to strengthen further KWASUTH’s capacity to serve as a centre of excellence in medical education and healthcare services in the state.
The Accreditation team included: Prof. Ligha Alaysius, Prof. Augustine Odili, Prof. Nanyak Galam, Prof. Fidelis Olumese, and Prof. Kenneth Ngwogu. Others are Prof. Olayemi, Prof. Mike Ogirima, Prof. Oladele Olatunya, Prof. Sina Oladokun, Prof. Kenechi Uwakwe, Mr. David Omoregie and Mr Bello Misbau.
