KWHA promise to abide by 1999 constitution in budget passage

AUTHORITY of the Kwara State House of Assembly has disclosed that it will be guided by the nation’s constitution in passing the 2017 Appropriation Bill into law.

The Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Mashood Bakare, gave this indication while speaking at the commencement of budget defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State, before the legislature on Tuesday.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the legislature had last week concluded  debate on the general principles of the bill, read the bill for the second time and committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative process.

Hon. Bakare assured that the House would be strictly guided by the 1999 Constitution and passed budget that could be implemented to improve on the quality of lives of the people of the State.

He then enjoined his colleagues to take a detailed look at the details of MDAs, especially at the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to guide the house in appropriating funds for expenditure in this year’s budget.

This according to him would go along way in helping the house to pass a  budget that would meet the aspirations of the people, thereby assisting  in transforming the vision of the State Government into reality.

In his remark, the Chairman house Committee on Public Account, Hon. Abdul Rasheed Taiwo Abdullahi who said to whom much is given, much is expected enjoined MDAs to work on their IGR but cautioned that realistic projection should be made to assist the house in passing realistic and implementable budget for the State.

The Chairman house committee on Women Affairs and Social Development Hon Aishat Ibrahim who presided over the first budget defence by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development urged MDAs to always reconcile their figures to fast track the process.
