Lagos State University (LASU) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OPay, becoming the latest beneficiary of the fintech company’s ₦1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship initiative.
According to a statement from OPay, the agreement was formalised on Monday at the university’s campus.
Under the partnership, 20 LASU students will receive fully funded scholarships each year, as part of OPay’s Empowering Futures initiative — a long-term Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project designed to support academically outstanding but financially challenged students across Nigerian higher institutions.
During the signing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, praised OPay for its visionary approach to youth empowerment and education.
“Today, we gather to celebrate a remarkable demonstration of corporate goodwill and social responsibility by OPay Digital Services Limited,” she said. “This act of generosity highlights OPay’s dedication to promoting academic excellence and helping young Nigerians achieve their dreams. The scholarship will ease financial pressures on students and inspire them to reach greater heights.”
The Vice Chancellor added that the collaboration reflects a shared vision between LASU and OPay to equip young Nigerians through quality education and innovation.

The university’s Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, also expressed appreciation to OPay for extending its scholarship scheme to LASU students, describing it as a life-changing opportunity.
“We sincerely thank OPay for this scholarship. Its impact will go beyond financial assistance — it will inspire students to pursue excellence and make meaningful contributions to society,” he said.
Representing OPay, Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Wang reaffirmed the company’s dedication to nurturing the next generation through long-term investment in education.
