The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Udeme Uko, a 45-year-old man who was shot dead while sleeping with his family inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:10 am on Tuesday. Uko was reportedly shot in the head by unknown gunmen. A locally made pistol was recovered at the scene. The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Police spokesperson Timfon John confirmed the incident and said the possibility of either suicide or an external attack is being considered. The state Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. A similar attack last year in Uyo was confirmed to be gang-related.
