Myanmar to boost COVID-19 treatment in cooperation with private hospitals

Myanmar’s Ministry of Health and Sports will cooperate with private hospitals in treatment and testing measures against COVID-19 in the near future, according to a release from the ministry.

Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe announced the move at a recent ministry’s meeting.

“There are more than 230 private hospitals across the country.

“We have categorised them into four groups based on treatment and testing capability and have submitted the list to the ministry,” Dr Htin Paw, President of Myanmar Private Hospitals’ Association said.

A total of 52 private hospitals have applied for approval to give treatment and testing services for COVID-19 and of them, hospitals which meet the criteria will undergo scrutiny by the government, Htin said.

As at Wednesday, Myanmar reported 56,940 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 1,330 deaths since it was first detected in the country on March 23, the ministry’s latest figures showed.
